CLARE PURDY BLOG - START OF THE SEASON

Clare Purdy

And here we are the start of another Season...it seems only a few weeks ago that I put my kit away ready for the Summer break..

For all Clubs, including Wasps, the beginning of the Season marks the start of a new adventure and everyone is looking forward to seeing what the league has in store for us.

We currently hold league places in the top two tiers of the English league competition. The first XV will face tough opposition such as Saracens, Richmond, Worcester while the 2s XV will face the likes of Hove, Chesham and also the 2s XV of both Saracens and Richmond.
So how do we prepare for what is ahead of us...?!

We know that each league game will be a physical challenge and we will be put under pressure, so we have to be prepared physically as well as tactically!!!

For the last few years we have started the Season with a Club Day or weekend...we have had 'Big Weekend', 'Massive Weekend' and this season we held 'W.W.W Day' which stood for 'World Wide Wasps' Day!! We have had a number of players join us for 2011 Season from as far a field as Slovenia, New Zealand, Australia and so to mark the new recruits we all meet on the 3rd of September to go through the various admin needed to register everyone but more importantly to outline our hopes and aspirations for the season as an individual but as a collective Wasps squad!!

This took most of the morning, with our Coaches leading the whiteboard session and then putting the players through a training session in the afternoon. We then all headed to Twickenham to support London Wasps in the start of their against Saracens!!

It was a great afternoon and a great way to mark the start of the Wasps journey for 2011/12...with 12 new players registered so far we're hoping to carry on seeing new players coming to training and helping us to strengthen the Wasps Squads. Competition for positions will be intense this year and so it will be with pride that I wear the Wasps jersery when selected for fixtures!
