A Moulton College student who won a kit design competition has received his prize from a world-leading Rugby coach who helped steer a team to the top of the Olympic podium.
Lewis Smith won a competition with Akuma Sports, sponsors of the HSBC Rosslyn Park 7’s tournament.
Former England 7’s star Chris Cracknell who played for the Cornish Pirates, Exeter Chiefs, Bath and Worcester Warriors, is now the assistant coach for the Fiji 7’s team.
Using their 3D kit design software, Lewis’ creative strip caught Chris Cracknell’s eye, winning a training session to prep the team for world’s biggest school rugby tournament.
The coach put Moulton College under-18s rugby team through their paces during a training session – the college also won £2,000 worth of Akuma Rugby kit, which they wore on the pitch with pride.
Mr Cracknell said: “The standard was very high, which is a great reflection of the coaching the lads have.
“The lads’ new kit looked outstanding and mirrored their ability on the field.”
Mr Cracknell, assistant coach for the Fiji team that won gold at the 2016 Olympics, said: “We worked on simple basic areas of the 7’s game that are key fundamentals.” The team will compete in the tournament on the Monday March 20.
