Premiership Rugby 2017/18 Season
1st September 2017
The Aviva Premiership kicks off this Friday with a fantastic round of fixtures ready to whet the appetite for the next 9 months of scintillating, top class league rugby.
Holders Exeter kick off their title defence this Friday night with a trip up to Gloucester and it will be intriguing to see how they cope this year with the champions tag. After a tough pre season schedule they find themselves very focused on the task at hand this year as they look to bounce straight into the form that saw them go on a miraculous run at the end of the season and clinch last May’s epic final.
There are several very strong challengers knocking around this term. With Saracens’ squad getting stronger by the year, through incoming signings and the continued development of their home grown stars, they are this season’s favourites, on paper. Wasps, unbeaten at home all season last time out, will look to continue that strong form and strike back after the heartbreak of falling short in the final last season.
An ever present in the final four, Leicester Tigers will want to kick on this season and win their first Premiership title since 2012/13 and they have put a strong squad together under head coach Matt O’Connor, who will take charge from the off.
Some outside bets must include the likes of Northampton, looking for a better showing than last year, Bath, Sale, Gloucester and Harlequins. All sides have the potential to really kick on this year and will look gel their squads together for that big push throughout the season to crack the top four and once it’s play off rugby, anything can happen.
We are licking our lips for kick off in the Aviva Premiership season and excited to see how all the teams fare.
